The Twelve Great Feasts are the celebrations of the liturgical calendar year that are unique in they are celebrated by the Churches of the East and the West.
Unlike commemorations of certain saints or historical events relevant to regions, nations, or certain denominations, the Twelve Great Feasts unite all Christians in honoring the events in Scripture and sacred history that form the bedrock of belief and worship.
Beginning the liturgical calendar with the Nativity of the Theotokos (The Virgin Mary) on September 8th, the feasts continue through a yearly cycle with The Nativity of Christ, Baptism, Palm Sunday, The Ascension, and conclude with The Dormition (Falling Asleep) of the Theotokos on August 15th. Noticeably missing is Easter Sunday, the Resurrection of Christ, which is considered the Feast of All Feasts and the greatest of all events unto itself.
Each image is based on an original work by iconographer Joseph Malham and has been reproduced by Trinity Icons on stretched canvas and comes signed by the iconographer. The Twelve Great Feasts are available individually in two sizes but when purchased as a suite one of the images is free. The images do not need framing, but come with finished edges, hooked on the reverse and ready for hanging.
These are not paintings or artwork but icons, vehicles of prayer, and foci of contemplation and are perfect for churches, schools, colleges, and homes. The Twelve Great Feasts is a uniquely powerful way to celebrate your faith, both in public worship and private devotion.
